Tour with "Hurtigruten" (coastal line) is very popular, both among tourist and norwegians. Enthusiasts will be happy to take the whole trip from Bergen to Kirkenes and furthermore back again. This trip will last for 11 days! For those with limited time it may be a little too much.
Luckly the company running the costal line has fortunately understood this. Therefore, you may choose shorter trips. It is recomandable to combine use of aircraft and coastal line, since the distance in Norway are quite long. Remember that Norway is a country that has many mountaints and fjord. Ypur are not likly to cruise on interstate highways in this beatyfull nature. More likely, it is a combonation of ferries and small roads.
So back to the "small trip approach" (2-4 days). There are many attractive alternatives, but the most popular routes at the time:
Tromso - Trondheim
Trondheim - Bergen
Tromso - Trondheim are onsidered as the absolut best part. This trip will include "Lofoten". It is consider the big nature experiences. It is said that if you travel south, it is the nature you discover. Oposite, on the way north, you visit the cities. This has to do with the ships traveling scedules and day / night.
The trip Trondheim - Bergen is also very nice, with lots of beautiful scenery. In summer you may join the ship on sailing into "Geirangerfjord". It's so beautiful there! I will share some pictures from my trip in may 2011. You may book a trip at
Hurtigruten. Also if you would like to combine the trip with airflight, i do recommend to use
Norwegian on domestic flights since this is a low fare company.
